Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility

Sustainability is a response to a number of imperatives that are driving business today. Whether that business is a diversified manufacturing company with operations worldwide, or a small energy company operating in a regional electricity market, both organisations must find their way of responding to these imperatives. But that response must be substantive, it must be based in the commercial and political realities of the market in which the company operates and it should contribute towards the environmental, social and economic goals of both the business and the community.

E3 has worked with a number of organisations, assisting them to develop a considered response to issues raised in addressing the 'sustainability' agenda and developing frameworks that will allow them to move towards that goal, and more importantly implementing practical strategies and initiatives that will move those organisations further along the sustainability 'curve'.

Our approach to corporate sustainability and responsibility is characterised as pragmatic rather than ideological, incremental rather than judgmental, evolutionary rather than revolutionary, proactive rather than reactive, innovative rather than conventional. It comprises four distinct stages:

  • Stage 1 - Sustainability Think Tank - to identify what it means to be an environmentally and socially responsible corporation?
  • Stage 2 - Sustainability Curve - where is a company on the sustainability 'curve', where does it want to get to and how large is the 'gap'?
  • Stage 3 - Sustainability Road Map - how does a company integrate environmental and social imperatives into their corporate strategy, their day-to-day operations, and their business and investment decision-making processes?
  • Stage 4 - Sustainability Business Case - how can a company's response to these imperatives contribute towards shareholder value and unlock opportunities for the business?

Our work in the corporate sustainability and responsibility fields include:

  • Assisting energy companies define what sustainability means to them and providing direction for establishing a pathway to sustainability;
  • Developing corporate reporting frameworks and preparing corporate environmental and sustainability reports;
  • Providing strategic advice and direction to companies on what it means to be an environmentally and socially responsible business, from third party supply contracts to environmental management; and
  • Building the business case for sustainability around a series of bio-regional development initiatives that respond to a variety of environmental, social and economic drivers and that constitute value-added business propositions in their own right.
